Minaret.

  hi.

                              Title:Minaret
Arab street, an area once owned by arab merchant syed ali bin mohamed al junied ,used to be the trading hub for arab merchants during times of old . Today , traces of it's history could be found in the form of double storey shophouses specializing in the sale of textiles ,jewellery, sweet perfumes, carpets, curio, rattan, preserved food , spices, flower-shops, Muslim restaurants, and money-changers .

Kampong Glam was listed as a conservation area by the Urban Redevelopment Authority on 7 July 1989. It's crown jewel, the Sultan mosque was once built at 1824 and was rebuilt after falling into a state of disrepair.

Denis sentry , who was the architect for the building then adopted a sarascenic style, incorporating minarets and balustrades. Basically, minarets are tall spires which are used for the call of prayer. The design of the pomegranate flower was also incorporated into the structure as the balustrades. ( probably designed for the stairwells.)

Anyway, I believe that this area will be taken down in the future to make way for a carpark; So i decided to draw this out as soon as i could . However, i feel that the presevation of collective wisdom of our ancestors should come first .After all, what is a structure without the human soul to inhabit it ?(

Lastly , if you happen to pass by haji lane, feel free to check out the wonderful graffiti .

Thanks for reading .
